Chief Red Cloud was one of the most formidable Native Americans the U.S. Army faced. He bravely led his tribe through many triumphs over the U.S. to protect their land. He died in 1909 and is remember for saying, "They made us many promises, more than I can remember. But they kept but one--They promised to take our land...and they took it."
